Philadelphia travel vlog: Honest Experience with Abrar Hassan

Philadelphia travel vlog experiences are usually filled with history, iconic landmarks, and amazing food but my journey here turned out to be a mix of surprises, concerns, and unexpected charm.

After spending over a week like like 8 days stuck in New York traffic, I finally hit the road from Long Island on my motorcycle, heading toward Philadelphia. I had always heard this city was rich in history and culture. But honestly, it didn’t feel exactly how I expected. And that’s what made this journey even more interesting.

Philadelphia Travel guide: The Journey from New York

Leaving New York wasn’t as easy as I thought. Even on a Sunday morning, the traffic refused to let me go. At one point, I accidentally entered Manhattan again something I definitely didn’t plan.

But sometimes wrong turns lead to unexpected views. Riding through Manhattan one last time on a motorcycle felt surreal. Still, the goal was clear to reach Philadelphia in about 3 hours. And finally, I made it.

Philadelphia: First Impressions of the City

The moment I entered downtown to Philadelphia, one thing hit me immediately that was parking anxiety.

Traveling with a motorcycle full of luggage isn’t easy here. Unlike many countries where you can park safely, here it felt risky. And that fear became real when I saw a car with a smashed window from which someone had stolen items from inside. Even hotel parking didn’t guarantee safety, despite paying $35 for less than 24 hours . That was honestly shocking to for me. So, I checked into my hotel Penn’s View that I booked fromBookme.com and was ready to explore.

Exploring Historic Old Town in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in the United States, founded in 1682. And you can feel that history in every corner of the Old Town. Walking through the area near the American Revolution Museum, I stumbled upon a live event with people dressed as British soldiers and it felt like stepping back in time. Then I reached Independence Square, one of the most important locations in American history.

Unfortunately, due to a government shutdown, many attractions including the famous Liberty Bell were closed. That was disappointing, but just being there still felt significant. So, let me tell you government shutdown happens when government don’t have enough money then parks, museum and places like that are being closed because government can not pay the wages or workers their.

Philadelphia travel guide: A City Full of History

If there’s one thing that stands out in Philadelphia, it’s the architecture.

Unlike modern cities like New York, this place feel is older, calmer, and more European. You’ll find:

  • Red brick houses
  • Narrow streets
  • Preserved historical buildings
  • A mix of old and modern structures

One of the most fascinating places I visited was Alfred Alley the oldest residential street in the U.S, dating back to 1703. Walking through it felt like time had stopped and there were only 32 red bricked houses were built between 1720 and 1836 that you can still watch today. After that I had dinner at university area restaurant.

The Honest Side of the City

Now here’s the part most travel blogs don’t tell you. Philadelphia is the 6th big city of US having 1.6 million people including 5.8 million people in metropolitan area. When I met a local kid who was born here, I asked him what he thought about the city. His answer?

“It smells, it’s polluted, and it’s crowded.” That was brutally honest.

Compared to cities like New York or Chicago, Philadelphia felt less lively. But still there are some points for visitors like one of the most impressive buildings I saw was the Philadelphia City Hall architecture. It’s massive, detailed, and present right in the heart of the city. Some part of the city hall top is constructed recently as it is shown from its architecture. On top, a statue of William Pence, the founder of Pennsylvania, in which Philadelphia is present. The metro here is just fine as it is not very clean but for ride it is normal.

Right next to there is something even more intriguing, the Grand Lodge of Freemasons. So, let me tell you Free masons is the world’s oldest fraternity organization. Their lodge is very big and freemasons had big role in making Philadelphia. This place belongs to one of the oldest and most secretive organizations in the world, which is Freemasons. I couldn’t go inside, but even from outside, the building looked mysterious and grand.

Philadelphia travel guide: Rocky Steps

No Philadelphia travel vlog is complete without visiting the Rocky Steps. If you’ve seen the movie Rocky, you already know this place.

  • Tourists run up the stairs
  • Locals use it for exercise
  • It offers a stunning city view

I reached a bit late (thanks to oversleeping 😅), but the energy there was still amazing.

Travelling on their Main mark street we visited their Independence Square which is present on their 100 dollar note.

Philadelphia Travel Vlog: Food Experience (The Real Highlight)

Let’s talk about food the best part of this trip. Philadelphia is famous for one thing:
Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich I finally tried it at a local spot Saad restaurant, along with an Arabian style chicken sandwich.

And honestly?

👉 The Philly cheese steak completely won. It was Juicy, Flavorful, and Rich in taste

If you visit Philadelphia and don’t try it then you missed the real experience.

Things to do in Philadelphia: Tourist Attractions

Philadelphia is worth visiting if you enjoy history, architecture, and iconic landmarks. The city offers:

  • Historic sites like Independence Square and Liberty Bell
  • Unique streets like Alfred Alley
  • Famous attractions Rocky Steps
  • Delicious food like Philly cheese steak

However, some areas may feel crowded or less lively compared to cities like New York. I think it feels more because New York is more lively than Philadelphia.
