There’s something about New York in the rain that transforms the city into an entirely different experience. The wet streets reflect the neon lights of Times Square, and the sound of raindrops tapping on the sidewalk creates a rhythmic symphony. During my recent visit, I had the chance to explore New York City on one of those rainy days, and let me tell you, it hit differently.
It wasn’t just about the rain, it was about seeing the city’s iconic spots from a whole new perspective. So, grab your umbrella, and let’s walk through a rainy day with Abrar Hassan to enjoy my real life experience in New York in the rain.
Times Square: The Heart of NYC in the Rain
Times Square is always buzzing, but when it rains, the atmosphere shifts. The usual crowds huddle under umbrellas, and the city that never sleeps somehow feels more tranquil. Despite the rain, the bright lights from the massive digital screens give the square a surreal glow.
On this rainy day, I walked through the area, and let me tell you, If you’re visiting New York in the rain, don’t shy away from the crowds rather embrace the hustle and bustle at times square and find a cozy cafe. There are many different things that you can explore at Times square so visit them here “Things to do at Times Square“
Rockefeller Center: A Quiet Escape Amidst the Storm
On rainy days, there’s something comforting about heading to the Rockefeller Center. Famous for its Christmas tree and ice skating rink. There weren’t many tourists when I visited, and I could really take in the beauty of the architecture without the usual crowds.
If you’ve been to the Rockefeller Center during the holiday season, you know how overwhelming it can get. But visiting on a rainy day allowed me to enjoy the space without feeling rushed or crowded.
Central Park: The Calm in the Heart of Manhattan
After walking through Times Square and the Rockefeller Center, I decided to visit Central Park, one of the most serene spots in all of New York. There’s something about Central Park that makes it even more magical, and then you can say that New York in the rain hits different and its beuty mesmerized you and it forced you to say really it is the life line of New York people. One more interesting thing about the tall buildings that make the park even more beautiful and appartments arround it more expensive.
Central Park wasn’t always like this, it used to be swampy land until it was transformed into the lush park we know today. What struck me the most about this park is how it’s a sanctuary for locals and tourists alike.
No matter how hectic the city gets, Central Park offers a place for everyone to relax and take in the beauty of nature. Moreover, you can also enjoy the street food options and artists displaying their work on the streets of the park

Central Park spans 850 acres and took 15 years to complete. It’s the perfect spot to escape the noise and enjoy a peaceful walk, even in the rain.
Fifth Avenue: Shopping and Iconic Architecture
While it’s tempting to duck inside a store to avoid getting soaked, Fifth Avenue is a great place to explore, even in the rain. The avenue is lined with luxury stores, from Louis Vuitton to iconic flagship locations like Apple Store. The architecture of these buildings, like the one housing Louis Vuitton on Fifth Avenue, is as stunning as the shops themselves. Even though I wasn’t in the mood for shopping in the New York in the rain but the buildings and their design attracted me to visit.
Don’t let the rain stop you from checking out some of the world’s most luxurious stores.
Chelsea Market and The Edge: Savoring Views and Good Food
No rainy day in New York is complete without a trip to Chelsea Market. This indoor marketplace is a food lover’s paradise. I grabbed a coffee and enjoyed the historical charm of the place as it seems from its architecture that it is old enough. The market is housed in a building that’s been around for a while and has been transformed into a vibrant space for food, shopping, and local vendors.
If you’re hungry, check out the food stalls at Chelsea Market. You’ll find everything from tacos to artisanal coffee, perfect for warming up on a chill, rainy day.
Afterward, I made my way to The Edge, one of the city’s newest sky decks. It was a bit crowded with people eager to see the skyline, but even in the rain, the views from the 101st floor were spectacular. You can see the city unfold below you, even if the sky is a bit cloudy and I pay 75$ for the visit there are diffent types of tickets that you can buy 10$ less for fixed time visit or more.
Exploring New York in the rain at night
As the rain continued, I wandered through various neighborhoods, noticing how the city adapts to the weather. People hustle to find shelter, while others embrace the wet streets as part of the New York experience. There was even a parade in Times Square at night where people were dancing in the rain and moving forward. It was a reminder that New Yorkers don’t let a little bad weather slow them down.
The New York food trucks around the city were still serving delicious meals, and despite the rain, the city was as alive as ever. This time I decided to eat from food truck named Adil Food Truck and it is most famous after Halal Food Truck from where we have food previous time. I spent 11$ for their special meal which has rice, fries, chicken and beef. And its taste was really awesome.
